🍈 Everything you need to know about the Mirabelle de Lorraine

A true golden pearl, the Mirabelle de Lorraine illuminates the end of summer with its sweet and captivating fragrance.

Small, round, and vibrant, it is delicate, rare, and precious. Grown in the generous lands of Lorraine, it benefits from a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and a Label Rouge, symbols of exceptional quality. The Mirabelle de Lorraine is not just a fruit: it is a tradition, a living heritage, a piece of history to be savored with gusto.

🍴 How to consume and store it?

Freshly picked, mirabelle plums are fragile. They can be stored for 2 to 3 days at room temperature, or a few more days in the refrigerator.

To enjoy its intense flavor, it is recommended to eat it at room temperature. In cooking, it lends itself to a thousand variations: plain, in a thin tart, roasted with a little honey, in clafoutis, in jam, in compote... It is also the queen of jars, artisanal syrups, fine eaux-de-vie and traditional pastries. And for a simple pleasure: a handful of fresh mirabelle plums, nibbled on the market, is pure summer happiness.

🧬 Features

The Lorraine mirabelle plum is distinguished by its small size, its golden color often slightly speckled with red in the sun, and its incredibly sweet fragrance.

Its flesh is delicate, juicy, and melting, with a perfect balance between sweetness and freshness. It has a naturally high sugar content that exceeds that of many other plums. The Lorraine terroir, with its temperate climate and clay-limestone soils, allows it to develop slowly and harmoniously, guaranteeing a unique taste quality.

💡 Did you know?

Lorraine represents more than 80% of the world's mirabelle plum production!

The Mirabelle plum is said to have arrived in Europe in the 15th century and was named after the town of Mirabel in the South of France. Today, the Mirabelle de Lorraine is protected by a PGI and a Label Rouge, two rare distinctions for a fresh fruit. The region celebrates this gem every year with the famous Mirabelle Festival in Metz, bringing together thousands of foodies in August.
