It quietly arrives on the shelves with the first rays of spring. Red, juicy, sweet... strawberries evoke childhood memories, country snacks, and Sunday desserts.
But behind its fragile appearance lies a complex fruit, cherished by growers and adored by the French. It's even one of the most popular fruits consumed in France during the warmer months.
🍴 How to consume and store it?
Strawberries are delicate fruits: they can be kept for a maximum of 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator, ideally in their original tray, without washing them before storing them.
To fully appreciate their flavor, remove them from the refrigerator about twenty minutes before eating. Wash them just before eating, keeping the stems on to prevent them from absorbing too much water.
Raw, they're perfect: as a snack, in a fruit salad, in a smoothie, or on a tart. Cooked, they go well with jams, homemade coulis, or even a sweet risotto. And for a fresh touch: try them as carpaccio with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and a few basil leaves!

🧬 Features
The strawberry is technically a fake fruit: the small seeds on the surface (the achenes) are the real fruit! 🍓
It comes in dozens of varieties, including:
- Gariguette : fine, long, fragrant – the French favorite
- Cléry : sweet, fleshy, shiny
- Mara des bois : with a wild strawberry flavor
- Charlotte : soft, juicy and very sweet
Rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and very low in calories (35 kcal/100g), strawberries are as much a healthy fruit as they are a delicious treat.
💡 Did you know?
Strawberries were already consumed in Roman times, but it was in the 18th century, in Brittany, that a botanist brought back a variety from South America, giving birth to the modern strawberry.
A symbol of love and sensuality, the strawberry has always inspired artists, cooks... and lovers 💕. Fun fact: strawberries are often used as an olfactory test in perfumeries because their scent is so naturally captivating!
