How to make quick falafel in the air fryer?

  1. Prepare the dough : the day before, soak the dried chickpeas (uncooked!) in 3 times their volume of water. Drain, dry well. Mix with garlic 🧄, onion, herbs (parsley, coriander), spices (cumin, ground coriander), salt, pepper, a little flour or breadcrumbs, and a pinch of bicarbonate.
  2. Shape into compact balls or patties (3–4 cm), without packing them too tightly. Place them on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket, without overlapping.
  3. Spray with oil (or brush) to boost crispiness 🔥.
  4. Cooking time : 200°C, 14–16 min . Turn halfway through cooking for even browning. Add 1–2 min if you like it golden brown.
  5. Serve hot : in pita bread, bowls, salads 🥗, or with a yogurt-tahini sauce, pickles, raw vegetables...

FAQ – Quick Falafels Air Fryer Time

Why not use canned chickpeas?

Canned chickpeas are already cooked, resulting in a dough that is too wet and crumbles when cooked. For well-bound and fluffy falafel, it is essential to use soaked dried chickpeas! 🌱

How to prevent falafel from crumbling?

Drain the chickpeas very carefully, dry them in a cloth, and don't hesitate to add a little flour or breadcrumbs if the dough is too sticky. Compact each ball well 👌.

Can you freeze falafel dough?

Yes! Shape the balls, freeze them flat, and then store them in a bag. You can cook them directly from frozen, adding 2–3 minutes of cooking time.

What oil should I use for air frying?

A neutral oil (rapeseed, sunflower) or olive for more flavor 💚. Use a spray for a thin film, it's the key to crispiness.
