Honestly, who hasn't been disappointed by a rather sad fruit salad, drowned in overly sweet syrup? I have, for one! For a long time, I searched for the perfect recipe, one that makes the fruits sing without masking them. And then, one day, enlightenment! I found the little trick that changes everything, for a super fresh, light fruit salad that sings in your mouth. Ready to embark on a flavor journey? And how do you usually make yours?
Why is my fruit salad different?
I know what you're thinking: 'A fruit salad is just chopped fruit!' Well, yes... and no! The art of fruit salad is primarily about choosing the right fruits, at the right time, and knowing how to combine them. For me, it's a bit of a ritual. I go to the market, I touch, I smell, I look for the rare gem. And above all, I banish added sugar, because nature does things so well, don't you think?
Ingredients
Steps
Prepare all fruits with love. Gently wash your strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. Hull the strawberries. For the melon, cut it in half, remove the seeds, and scoop out the flesh into balls (if you have a melon baller, now's the time to use it!) or small cubes.
Peel and cut the peaches and nectarines. Dip them in boiling water for a few seconds if the skin is difficult to remove, then refresh them. Cut them into cubes similar in size to the other fruits. The idea is for each bite to be a harmonious blend, you know?
Mix everything in a large bowl. Be gentle, especially with the delicate berries. We don't want a puree, but a beautiful salad!
Season the salad to awaken its flavors. Squeeze fresh lime juice over your fruits. Lime awakens flavors and also prevents some fruits from oxidizing. Add the tablespoon of orange blossom water if you're like me and enjoy that fragrant touch. And the mint? Roughly chop it and incorporate it just before serving.
Chill before serving. Ideally, an hour in the refrigerator, so the flavors blend well. But not too long, to keep the crunch and freshness of the fruits!
