Seasonal fruits and vegetables

Jan 02, 2024Charles Piedboeuf1 comment

Fruits and vegetables are present on our plates every day, but how do you know if a vegetable or fruit is in season?

To begin, we offer you a brief definition. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are products that have grown in accordance with their natural growth and production cycles .

- For your health : When fruits and vegetables are harvested, they begin to lose vitamins. Seasonal products are offered in short circuits so the time between harvest and sale is shortened, which allows them to ensure better nutritional intake. Note also that each season meets a need of the human body. For example, winter is marked by cold and lack of sun, your body then needs more nutrients and vitamin C. This is why at this time we find vegetables rich in minerals such as leeks , cabbages and fruits including citrus fruits rich in vitamin C such as clementines , oranges .

- For taste and freshness : seasonal fruits and vegetables have naturally reached maturity during their production, so they have been able to develop all their aromas. Their production cycle is complete and natural, so we find products with more taste, flavors, colors and smells.

- To support local farmers : consuming seasonal fruits and vegetables means favoring local products and therefore encouraging producers by promoting the local economy.

- To reduce the environmental impact : Eating seasonal fruits and vegetables also means reducing imported products from abroad and therefore reducing transport and the pollution this causes. In addition, imported products are often over-packaged to protect them during transport, which generates waste.

- To make culinary discoveries : eating seasonal fruits and vegetables allows you to discover new foods that you are not used to eating, which is a good way to vary your diet and discover new flavors.

- For your wallet : Seasonal produce tends to be cheaper since it grows particularly well at that specific time and is less expensive to produce and transport.
Here are so many good reasons to consume seasonal products, so don't hesitate any longer and discover our seasonal fruits and vegetables :)
